Alice Munro

Ok, so besides Daniel Day Lewis being one of the biggest studs of this lifetime, there are 2 other reasons why "The Last of the Mohicans" is one of my favorite movies. If you don't believe me when I say that Daniel Day Lewis is a stud, then you are crazy. When they wanted him for his Academy Award winning role in "There WIll be Blood" they could not find him anywhere. Eventually he was discovered in Tuscany, and he was an apprentice to a leather shoe maker. Evidently it was always something he wanted to do, so he just did it. But anything DDL is in is worth watching ( except maybe the "Age of Innocence" because I can't stand Michelle Pfieffer). However the movie "The Last of the Mohicans" is not that fabulous on the whole, but it has some attributes that make is unmissable. So, the other 2 reasons this movie is a keeper : 1) it has one of the best scores you will ever hear 2) It has one of the best scenes you will ever watch. The score was written by Randy Edelman and Trevor Jones, their best work by far. But the music will make you want to save babies and accomplish everything. You could just shut your eyes and listen to it for hours ( I do). Go and listen to some of it on itunes if you doubt me. OK, the best scene you will ever see... you have to watch the whole movie to see it, you cannot cheat and watch just the good scene online. I say this because the character in the movie, Alice ( the younger sister), is insignificant up to this point. (BTW if you have not seen this movie and want to, stop reading, im going to spoil it for you) She has gone through a hell of a lot in a few days, capture, torture, watching family be murdered, and there is nothing she can do about it. She is just this little insignificant girl who just is being carried by the war waves she did not have anything to do with. But, at the end of the movie ( during some of the best music) she does something uncharacteristic. She takes control. She walks over to the edge of the cliff, stares the Indians in the eye, and steps off. Now by killing herself she did the only thing she could to have it her way. She knew they were going to torture, sell, and kill her, ao took matters into her own hands. The whole movie you watch this child just being kicked around with wide bambi eyes, but then she takes you all by surprise and finishes it herself. Also for the first tim, she has a look of maturity on her face. It is haunting, sad, and beautiful moment, and one of the most moving scenes in a movie I have ever seen.
