Egon Shiele

Most people who visit art museums are there to really sink their teeth into something beautiful. They want to feel something, and see something created purely for the purpose of creating it. Paint on a canvas is a classic way of expression for artists. Everyone can be an artist too, which is what makes it so accessible. I am a painter, I love to paint. But even more than I love to paint, I love to see what other artists have painted. I feel like by looking at the brush strokes and color mixing, it is kind of like the artist had just walked away after leaving that mark. He just went to get a cup of coffee after putting a indian yellow hot highlight on the surface of a face. recently we went to Vienna where we got to see the largest Egon Shiele collection in the world. Pictures don't do him any justice. His brushes just move around the paint like they were old friends. The colors find their complements and say hello. His figures make you look at your own hands in a different way, the colors on your face seem so much more intense, and the shadows and lights reflecting on your skin just whisper to you. I have been forever changed by seeing his work in person, thank you Egon Shiele for everything you have done for me, and no doubt the rest of the world.
